Dsort
Date Sorting System
Dsort - An Automated Date Sorting System
CrystalVision Dsort is a fast and accurate grading and sorting system, which consists of several hardware and software units that perform the following tasks:
- Singulating (separating the dates from each other)
- Grading (determining the quality of each date)
- Sorting (directing each date to a predefined output bin)
Singulating. A slow conveyer supplies dates to a singulator. Dsort 's video camera then captures an image of the dates and transfers it to the computer for grading and setting each date's final destination. Using a controller attached to the computer, Dsort directs each date to one of the outlets.
Grading. Using an algorithm developed especially for dates, Dsort's machine vision software grades dates for size, unripe (yellow), low moisture rings, blisters and moisture content. The system is fully automated, from singulating the dates to photographing them to sending them to the proper bin after sorting.
Sorting. The machine is controlled using a Windows-based software application. Using predefined sets of sorting plans (in response to client orders) the packing house can control the types and sizes of dates that will turn to each outlet.
The machine is made of stainless steel and plastics, with elements subject to corrosion enclosed in tight plastic cases. The dates fall into the singulator then pass under the camera and into the sorting apparatus. An air actuated slider slides each date gently into the correct outlet.
Visual Vision uses a Pc as its main computing unit. Images of the dates are captured using one or more color cameras. Activation of the slides ('fingers') is done using standard industrial opto22 cards.
Operating Dsort requires one trained operator, one feeder, 1-3 quality assurance workers and one packer.
